You!

In December 2005, the JCAHO proposed
a new Patient Safety Goal for 2007 — "Goal 16: Discourage
Disruptive Behavior." However, when the final Patient Safety
Goals for 2007 were released, Goal 16 was omitted.
But ... it's back ... now as a
new Leadership Standard that applies to everyone in the hospital.
The proposed standard is under field review until January 24,
2007.
Join Linda Haddad, Lauren Massucci
and Rachel Remaley of Horty, Springer and Mattern for a discussion
of effective ways to address disruptive behavior, including:
- Outlining expectations and consequences
- What
should be in a Code of Conduct Policy?
- What
if the bad behavior has been going on for years ... can you
take action now?
- What if it's a "he said ... she
said" situation?
- A normal person doesn't act
this way. Should the disruptive individual be referred
to the physician health committee for review and a possible
psych exam?
- When is a precautionary suspension
appropriate?
- What about sexual harassment?
Should it be treated like any other disruptive behavior?
- Does
the Board have a role?
