Ms. Jefferiesis a Senior Partner in the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C., of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a research editor for HortySpringer Publications, including ACTION KIT for Hospital Law and The Medical Staff Law Manual.
She has served as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court and for the Western District of the Pennsylvania Office of the U.S. Attorney. She is a past Chairperson of the Western District of Pennsylvania Merit Selection Panel for U.S. Magistrates and a past member of Judiciary Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the Hearing Committee of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and the Subcommittee of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Committee on Racial and Gender Bias in the Justice System. She is currently a member of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the Advisory Board of the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation, the Executive Committee of the National Practitioner Data Banks, and a Senior Fellow of the Estes Park Institute.
Ms. Jefferies is an experienced health planner and works as a legal consultant/counselor and educator to community hospitals and other health organizations regarding various health and health care legal and ethical issues, and with hospital governing boards, managers and medical staff leaders on their leadership responsibilities, medical staff bylaws, policies, rules and regulations, credentialing, performance improvement and professional peer review matters, medical staff development planning, university and community hospital resident training program evaluation and accreditation, and institutional reviews involving human subject research and investigation.
