What Does Compliance Have to do With the Medical Staff? Everything!

Surely a free meal served in the medical staff lounge, attendance at an educational conference, or a dinner at a medical staff committee meeting held at an off-site location, cannot implicate the Stark law?

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but because the government believes that physicians will take Sandra Bullock’s quote literally and refer patients to hospital that will provide things for free, the Stark law will apply to most benefits and payments made by a hospital to members of its Medical Staff.

However, don’t despair. Instead, join faculty Henry Casale as he discusses a number of Stark exceptions, especially one that was just adopted in January 2021, that will help to make your hospital medical staff office compliant with the law.
